linhay kitchen extension

project

A sympathetic extension to an architect’s existing South Devon linhay barn conversion provides plenty of space for a family-centred kitchen.

the brief:

As a busy family of five, our clients wanted more than just a place to cook and eat, they wanted a central hub for spending time together. A place for quality time where the family can interact and chat about their day.

the design:

High ceilings and wooden beams blend with sleek lines and contemporary features in this open-plan kitchen, dining and living space. White and graphite cabinetry, coupled with an oak bartop and stainless-steel appliances, complement the building’s stone, timber and steel structure.

Widely viewed an essential feature, this extension provides plenty of space for an all-important kitchen island. A popular choice for most family kitchens, an island is unquestionably one the most sociable areas in a home. Kitchen islands are the perfect place to eat, do homework and congregate with family and friends. A beautiful detail on this kitchen’s island is the flush oak bartop that becomes an extension of the worksurface.

Storage is also an important consideration in a family kitchen. In this design floor to ceiling recessed tall units provide plenty of cupboard space. Discreet shelving at the end of the run provides easy access to cookbooks without interrupting the simplicity of the room.
