Classic Kitchen and Sunroom

project

This classic kitchen and sunroom in Cornwall, part of a five-bedroom detached property tucked away in a quiet village, has been thoughtfully reimagined for modern family living. The owners wanted to open up a series of reception rooms to create one generous, flowing space. As a result, the kitchen, dining area and sunroom now come together in harmony.

the brief
The family transformed several reception rooms into an open-plan space with a kitchen, dining area and sunroom. They wanted a design that combined elegance with everyday practicality. They also asked for stronger links to the garden and surrounding views, so the layout now flows seamlessly between indoors and outdoors.

the design
Bespoke in-frame cabinetry fits the room perfectly. Finished in a soft white, the cabinetry works in harmony with warm oak interiors. At the centre, a darker-toned island anchors the room and, at the same time, delivers generous storage.

The cooking area combines grandeur with modern convenience. A Bora X Pure induction hob with downdraft extraction sits within a traditional overmantel crowned by a solid cornice moulding. Hidden oak drawers provide space for oils and condiments. A dedicated spice pantry, complete with integrated lighting, keeps herbs and spices neatly arranged while adding a soft, inviting glow.

Another highlight of the design is the countertop dresser with bi-fold doors. When open, it reveals a tea and coffee station softly lit within. Positioned beside the sink and Quooker tap, it turns everyday rituals into moments of ease while keeping counters clear. In addition, soft under-cabinet lighting runs throughout the space, adding depth and warmth from day to evening.

The kitchen links directly to the rest of the home. On one side, it opens into an elegant dining space with bespoke shelving cabinetry for display and storage. On the other side a wall was removed to connect the kitchen with the sunroom and create brighter space. The sunroom features a built-in bench seat and shelving unit, both crafted in the same cabinetry style as the kitchen. This detail creates harmony between the two spaces. Large windows flood the sunroom with natural light and strengthen the connection to the outdoors.
