a kitchen for togetherness

project

Lovingly restored by owners who combine expertise in both property and interior design, this Grade II listed home sits in the much-loved St Leonards area of Exeter, Devon. At it’s heart is a luxury bulthaup kitchen – a perfect space for the family to come together.

the brief

A luxury bulthaup kitchen in Exeter designed for modern family living.

Our clients had a clear vision for their kitchen design: to create an open-plan living space that would bring the family together — not around a screen, but around shared moments. They purposely avoided the distraction of a television to provide an environment that encouraged connection, conversation and calm.

the design

This luxury bulthaup kitchen in Exeter blends design precision with everyday functionality, elevating the heart of this historic home.

Sitting in a central spot within the home, this kitchen needed to be visually appealing without feeling overly “kitcheny.” The goal was also for this kitchen to feel like part of a bigger picture. The design needed to flow with the property’s architectural rhythm and reflect the home’s elegance.

Particularly known for a strong focus on architectural clarity, bulthaup was the natural choice for this kitchen. Its minimalist forms, clean lines and precise proportions work in harmony with the space and importantly complements the architecture rather than compete with it.

Sand Beige aluminium furniture from bulthaup’s b3 range was chosen for its refined finish and tactile feel. It brings a quiet touch of luxury to the kitchen.

The 3.5-metre island, with cabinetry on both sides, is as practical as it is striking. It offers generous storage and clearly defines the kitchen zone. The worktop flows all the way to the floor, creating a seamless, monolithic presence that grounds the space beautifully.

The worktop is Neolith’s Calacatta Silk. The pale base and delicate grey-gold veining resemble natural marble, while offering the durability and practicality of sintered stone. The same material continues inside the pocket door cabinet, creating a lovely sense of flow and carrying that subtle thread of luxury throughout.

Gaggenau 400 series appliances in Stainless Steel were chosen for their exceptional quality and pared-back design. Sleek and seamlessly integrated, they deliver high performance while preserving the kitchen’s calm aesthetic. The full suite includes combi steam ovens, warming drawers, a built-in coffee machine, induction hob, and integrated dishwasher. This blend of design and performance gives this luxury bulthaup kitchen in Exeter an effortless but elevated feel combing architectural elegance with everyday functionality.

And for times when serious cooking or baking is in play, a secondary kitchen/pantry sits just off the main space. This hidden zone is ideal for prep-heavy meals, messy cooking sessions, or kids’ baking marathons — helping keep the main space mess-free and guest-ready.
