Historic Carriage House kitchen
project
A timeless but modern kitchen to complement the architecture of a grade II listed carriage house.
the brief:
To create a contemporary kitchen with a classic feel that sits comfortably in this historic Somerset home. As the hub of this family home, our client also wanted their ‘old meets new’ kitchen to include a dedicated space for homework and day-to-day admin.
the design:
For this design we have created a contemporary kitchen that includes both a traditional AGA and modern, built-in appliances. Contrasting materials such as classic Granite and polished stainless steel, show that period buildings can stylishly incorporate modern influences. Expertly engineered bulthaup kitchen furniture in Alpine White provides a gentle setting for the bolder elements of this high-end kitchen. The kitchen island includes a solid walnut bartop which adds warmth to the space and flows with the traditional wood panelling in the dining area.
A place to work was also on the Wishlist for this old meets new family kitchen. To take advantage of the beautiful views we positioned a workstation in front of a window that looks across the garden. The kitchen worktop accommodates an undercounter barstool to create a pop-up home office and open shelving sits discreetly in a recess to the side so paperwork can be filed neatly away when not in use.
