scandinavian inspired kitchen refurbishment
project
Moving from an older, traditional property gave freedom to embrace a more minimal and timeless Scandinavian inspired kitchen design for this Sidmouth home.
the brief:
Create a light and airy kitchen, laundry space and office area that works with the existing dimensions and architecture.
the design:
Simplicity, functionality and light are all principles of Scandinavian design and words often used by our clients during design consultations. People often associate Scandinavian design with cold interiors but that really isn’t the case when designed properly.
Quality over quantity is key to Scandinavian-inspired kitchens, they should be inviting but with a sense of ‘less-is-more’. Layering warm woods, natural finishes and soft textures on a white colour palette add depth and warmth to a minimalist kitchen. Here, white cabinetry is paired with a walnut breakfast bar and walnut floating shelves on the TV area. We have also included oak furniture in this design for another layer of natural tones.
A Scandi kitchen isn’t complete without sleek barstools and hand-crafted wooden dining furniture to create a relaxed and calming environment. This kitchen showcases beautiful Danish furniture by Carl Hansen & Son including iconic Wishbone Chairs that Hans J Wegner designed for the company in 1949.
bulthaup accessories are the perfect choice for top-quality, understated kitchenware and take pride of place in this kitchen. The bulthaup walnut and oak bread board looks like a piece of art while herb pots and an oak cookbook stand elegantly hang from white wall panelling.
Pale hues and natural woods carry on through to the home office area and continue the Scandinavian feel. Adding a textured, neutral coloured rug gives a layer of cosiness to this space while the vibrant wall art provides a pop of colour without spoiling the simplicity of the scheme.
“Working with Sapphire Spaces was a lovely experience and we would happily use them again. Our visits to the showroom were always met with a warm welcome and the team listened to our requirements to create rooms that not only look great but work well for us. We felt well looked after both during and after the process and their service and quality is second to none.”
