panoramic clifftop kitchen
project
A waterside luxury kitchen designed for both sociable home cooks and professional chefs.
the brief:
This kitchen is designed for clients who love entertaining, often cooking themselves but frequently employing a professional chef for larger parties and get togethers. This robust kitchen provides a beautiful space for sociable family cooking but is also well equipped for outside caterers.
the design:
For this beautiful Torquay home we used a simple palette of alpine white with textured black oak that doesn’t detract from the panoramic coastal views.
An impressive 4.5m kitchen island takes advantage of the views and is raised on legs to keep an open feel. To balance proportion we commissioned a 3m long bespoke extractor to sit asymmetrically above the island. The extractor uses an external motor so guests can enjoy party banter without competing with extraction noise.
State-of-the-art Gaggenau appliances make this space a real showstopper and include several wine cabinets (each one dedicated to a particular colour of wine) and a freezer with an easily accessible ice-maker. To complete this party kitchen we also included a separate drinks area with boiling water tap and fridge drawer for milk storage. The drinks station is positioned at one end of the kitchen so drinks can be made without disturbing the chef.
Simple, Danish dining furniture by Carl Hansen & Son has been chosen for the informal eating area. A separate dining area, used for larger dinner parties, features elegant Italian dining furniture. Both the circular dining table and comfy dining chairs with armrests are from the Maxalto range by B&B Italia.
