After the heat we’ve had this summer, we’ve found ourselves wondering whether September might actually be one of the best months for eating outside.
July and August are the months we associate with outdoor living, but the reality can be rather different. Sometimes it’s simply too hot. By September, the garden often becomes a much more comfortable place to spend time; warm enough for lunch outside, but cool enough to actually enjoy it.
It raises an interesting point about the way we think about our gardens.
For us, a well-designed outdoor space isn’t about trying to recreate an indoor room in the garden. It’s about removing the little things that stop you using it: nowhere comfortable to sit, having to carry everything backwards and forwards, or the person cooking being separated from everyone else.
We’ve also never thought that going outdoors should mean compromising on the furniture you choose. Carl Hansen & Søn is a good example. The same things that make its furniture so appealing inside. thoughtful proportions, beautiful materials and craftsmanship, matter just as much when you’re sitting around a table in the garden.
KönigOutdoor solves a different problem. A properly considered outdoor kitchen means the person cooking can remain part of what’s going on, rather than continually disappearing back into the house.
Neither is really about ‘outdoor living’ as a trend.
They’re simply about making the garden somewhere you’re more likely to use.
